I had to cull my first chick today, and I am still devastated over it. She had a bad leg and after two weeks of physical therapy, she was really suffering and she was getting worse.
The method I used seemed to be pretty painless. http://www.waldeneffect.org/how_to_cull_chicks/ It's the baking soda/vinegar method. Please note that the above link does have a photo of a euthanized chick in it.
The death wasn't traumatic to the chick, and it wasn't as traumatic to me. I just don't think I could've cut her head off.

I just culled my baby chick using the vinager/baking soda method. It was fast and painless. I think this is the best way to do it. RIR baby chick
