According to the seller, the box of eggs might have been x-ray during shipping, thus the low fertility and malformation. I don't know if this is the case or not. He is willing to send me more eggs for the cost of shipping ony when he has more available.

I'm glad it was as quick for your baby as it was for mine.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I bet you're feeling the same as me- grief that it wasn't healthy, guilt that you actually killed something, and relief that you did the kindest thing.

Yes...that is absolutelly how I am feeling....Thanks for sharing your story ...it really helps

I am so sorry for your loss too! It's amazing how fast we get so attached to those little guys..

i ordered some from ebay. blue orps, and cochin bantams, and lemon cochins. only had one egg hatch. opend others and they were not fertile and some were deformed. i guess things happen with shipped eggs

Sorry to hear that. I guess we are taking a gamble everytime we put those shipped eggs in the incubator. How many eggs did you order?

Were the shipped eggs not fertile or were they quitters?

9 were not fertile that i tossed on day 15. the other 3 and my own made it to lockdown. all mine hatched and 1 of the others pipped, one hatched, the other died and the other one never did anything. opend it and the chicks had crooked beaks and deformed feet. the one that pipped and died had a small beak and extra toes. the cochin that lived had small toes but otherwise is fine. all mine are fine. im thinking it had to do with shipping. lots had detached air cells

First I'd like to tell those who've had loss and have had to make the decision.... I'm so sorry. It's not easy.
Second, I started a thread about culling asking how to do it. I have to say I was less than impressed with some of the responses and the "tone" taken with me. I just checked out this link that was posted.

THANK YOU for posting that. I had NO idea about vinegar and bakingsoda. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I will not be buying shears for my little fuzzbutts.
