I have 3 eggs that made it to lockdown. 2/3 chicks pipped the wrong end. One has been pipped with little progress in 24hours. I can see it's alive, when do you interviene with a malpositioned chick? :/

Peel of some of the shell without injuring the membrane. If the membrane looks dry, peel it off in that area. You can put on some coconut oil or water if the membrane is dry. If the chick isn't out within another hour, take off most off the shell and some membrane (stop if it bleeds and let sit another hour or two).

After that the chick should be able to push out. If it doesn't, help it out all the way. What day is this?

Thank you. I attempted very carefully to remove some shell. It started to bleed so I stopped immeadatly. This is day 22. It has now been almost 30 hours since pipped.

The chick finally zipped and hatched almost 36 hours later! seems like a healthy frisky chick so far!

What breed is it??

Thank you! Dad is an Americana amongst a mixed flock. I got the eggs from my inlaws, my best guess would be one of their RIR hens.
