Hello,
I have 10 turkeys and 30 chickens (chickens were included with the shipments of turkeys). All are 3 weeks old now. I found one turkey last night that was falling over. He/she can walk, but I've read enough now to know that it's most likely Mareck's disease. He/she is in a separate box, but the rest of the flock is surely exposed. I found that Hypericum should be given to the sick bird, but what should I do with the rest? Is it too late to vaccinate them at this point? Is there anything I can give them to prevent all from getting sick?! Help!

Thank you!

Yes, contrary to what has been posted here recently- Turkeys *can* definitely get it, as can Quail. Other types of fowl can as well, but not nearly as often (although there is a similar virus that affects waterfowl).

Also, I would be very suspicious of the advice to give Hypericum. I have only seen that advice referenced back to one person whom has given other erroneous advice. You also have to understand how homeopathic supplements are made. A bird would have to drink literally *thousands* of gallons of water to get even one molecule of Hypericum. Whether it even works or not anyway, I think is highly suspect.

I think I will cry now

Thank you for the advice! Is there anything I can do to stop the others from getting it?

I recently received a whole shipment of chicks infected with Mareck's from Healthy Chicks and More and there is no cure, nor is there any hope of introducing new birds, as if they manage to survive (very doubtful) they will be carriers for life with this contagious viral disease. They need to revise their name to anything BUT Healthy Chiks and More!
