help me choose a breed!!

I think bielfelders are beautiful
Yes, they are. Especially when you see them in person. They are very calm, sweet, and confident. Mine actually will go between two fighting girls to break the fight! She can live quite long as other heritage chickens. Mine is not a very good layer (about 3 eggs per week), but I heard some lay good.

wow! I am not allowed a rooster so another win is that they are auto sexing!! I might go with a bielefelder! do you have any pictures of yours?

Right off the bat, Bielefelders are not a heritage breed. "Heritage Chicken must be from parent and grandparent stock of breeds recognized by the American Poultry Association (APA) prior to the mid-20th century; whose genetic line can be traced back multiple generations; and with traits that meet the APA Standard of Perfection guidelines for the breed. Heritage Chicken must be produced and sired by an APA Standard breed. Heritage eggs must be laid by an APA Standard breed." Bielefelders are not APA recognized.

While that is the official definition from The Livestock Conservancy, I would even understand the argument that the terminology could be applied to any breed established before the 1950s. Bielefelders were created in the 1970s after commercialized farming. They are by no stretch a heritage breed. :) I believe the term you may be looking for is closer to just being "purebred."

Hey guys,
I am getting two more chickens and I need help choosing.
I'm thinking either a salmon favorelle, bielefelder, or like a rhode island red or something. please help me chose!!!
My favorite chickens are the Midnight Majestic Marans. Their black feathers have iridescent green and blue coloring, truly making them majestic. They are sweet girls and great layers. My Buffs and Sussex girls are also very sweet, but the Marans, are by far the best layers and the most easy going breed I have ever had.

P.S. I live in Arizona, which is now hitting the 115 temps and they are doing fine. So if you are in a place where the summers are grueling, Marans are a very good pick. Just water and shade keeps them happy.

We have a couple 13ish week old bielefelders who are Great. We got them at around 7-8 weeks old from a farm but they are somehow just as relaxed and friendly as our hand raised babies. The hen is very sweet and rarely involved in squabbles. And so far no signs of aggression from the rooster. 🙏Love them so far. I thoroughly enjoyed my Rhode Island Reds. They were nice enough. But my sweetest chickens were Easter Eggers. And they each lay 2 or 3 eggs a week.
I agree about Easter Eggers, they follow me around my garden and when I say bug they come running to where I'm pointing, my Cuckoo Marans also do this. I had a Rhode Island red rooster he flogged horribly I was glad the coyotes took him, I had to carry a rake with me and he would come at me from behind, man that rooster was a butthead! Lol
