I feel the same way I always want more breeds but I am just sticking with favs and a few odds and ends. My faverolles hens and roosters are really easy for me to handle they are a great breed for children and I got 5 eggs today and yesterday even in these blizzard conditions.

We like our bantam buff brahmas, which have been very good-tempered and tolerant of a small child, and we live in your climate but more so.

They lay a decent sized egg and they seem to be a medium level of broody.

I'd have to vote bantam wyandottes. Their sweet both roos and girls! Today we got 7 inches of snow and of course the wyandottes were tracking/hopping/flapping through it, they really didn't even seem to notice it was there! In the summer they are out digging, dust bathing, running around, and everything else you can think of. I had 2 of my girls fly into my arms when I opened their run door today to let them free range!
