HELP ME CHOSE A BREED

Thanks once again. I'm probably going to go and buy my own little lot of chickens. Probably some GLW, some GB, SS, Silver Laced and one male Black Australop.

Wyandottes and Brahmas would probably be my choices for extreme cold areas, although Orpingtons and Barred Rocks are my favorite breeds (single combs). Dottes and Brahmas both lay through winter, although the Brahmas take longer to mature and their eggs take longer to reach extra large size, but they are both large birds with small combs, one rose and one pea.

I think you should just get one of each breed!

Temperment must vary - Our RIR's are curious and funny and our Wyandottes though very beautiful are more distant and uninterested in us unless we have treats - but I consider both great in my limited experience - CarriBrown has a good idea to get one of each - we're getting 4 more breeds for this year (Barnevelder, Welsummer, Silver Gray Dorking, and Ameracauna)- we'll see how they do!
