Help me decide which rooster to keep! UDATE!!! THEY WERE SAVED!!!

Thanks. I may ask him. I hope he sees this thread.

They both have similar type, and #2 has better foot feathering from what I can tell, but the hard feathers in #2's tail puts him out of the running for me.

If I were making the decision, I would definitely keep #1 and breed to a really nice pullet, like pullet #3.

Thanks for noticing this thread PouletsDeCajun. Your information is greatly appreciated.

Yes I did, several times actually.

I am sorry that you haven't had any luck with that....maybe try putting up a sign at the feed store and in your local vet offices?

At least one of your hens has the pointy tail of the second male, which is something you would want to avoid in silkies. The second one would be able to bring in better foot feathering, but the first one would be better in working on the tails. You have to decide what's more important to you, but a judge will look more favorably on a bird with light foot featherimg than one one with a pointed tail. To be completely honest, I would get rid of both males and find a better quality one

Update..

I worked things through with my dad and I ended up keeping both. I am still a little depressed about the other two that were taken, but their qualities were probably worse. I will see how things work out with these two, and if needed, I may sell one.

LilPeeps - Thaks for the info on the show, I want to show them in 4-H this summer, but you know.. 4-H is 4-H and isn't as serious as the state shows. I also just want to do it for fun and the experience. I would like to have a better rooster, but these are my first birds. It may just be my personal preference, but I cant part with these boys. I guess you could say that I am in over my head about this

Thanks for your concerns though. Besides.. it's not like i'm gunna end up like PouletsDeCajun or therealsilkiechick and be a Breeder in 1 night

But the experience to *kind of* think like one may be helpful in the future when I am living on my own.

Thanks everyone! Sorry if I made this sound serious when I ended up keeping both. But thanks for you're support!

As I was reading the thread, I was thinking, hmmm.. a small silkie is not like a Large Turkey... they don't eat much and mine is quiet, even when he squeaky crows...

Glad you could hang onto them both!

Today while at school my mom left me a voicemail that the two roosters that were suppose to be butchered... WERE SPARED!!! It turns out that when my neighbor went to take the roosters to her sister's house to be butchered, her nephew was there and his children really liked the silkies (disposition and looks) and was already thinking about getting them chickens as pets!!!
