What breed is your hen? She is beautiful, as are the rest of your gang!Yeah, I live in the country. I know we have stray cats around here, though I can't catch them. I haven't seen any kittens... But they probably stay away from my place, as I have dogs and horses and it's probably scary.

... Stupid and Fatty... Yes there's a story. No, I didn't name them.Nice! What are the twin tuxedo cats' names?
Thank you! She's a blue australorp. What breed is your hen? She is beautiful, as are the rest of your gang!
Fatty gets called Fatty... Sometimes. I call stupid "buddy" about 95% of the time. They respond to anything from me. They respond to their actual names if other people in the house say it, so those are their "names". I am just the crazy cat lady. LolI am of the belief that cats (and perhaps other animals as well) do not respond to their names so much as they respond to our voices. We got a cat named Pearl but didn't care for that name. The Japanese equivalent is Shinju. My daughter said she didn't think the cat could learn a new name. I said, Try calling her Pancake and see what happens. She responded beautifully to Shinju in a matter of days.
Also, the vet doesn't care what you call your cats. Change the names in their files to whatever suits you. I always have what I call "working" names for my dogs - names I expect them to respond to - and "public" names - names I expect them to ignore, that I tell people when they ask, "What's your dog's name?" I do this because invariably when I give them a name, they immediately start trying to see if my dog will obey them. "Sit, Buddy, sit. Come here, Buddy." Why should my dog obey a perfect stranger? Give your cats nice public names for the vet and call them Stupid and Fatty at home.
No, I totally get it. I was just suggesting a name change for the vet if it made you uncomfortable. Sounds like you've got a handle on it. I only recently learned these effects of early neutering and I'm glad you take the responsibility of having an intact male seriously. Sadly, too many do not. In my youth I had a female Collie and I honestly thought I could prevent an unwanted pregnancy. Silly me. Ten puppies later .... education is always the key.Fatty gets called Fatty... Sometimes. The vet thing I have started using as a barometer of the vet. If the vet seems actually upset about it, I tend to find another vet. I have found this works better for me, because of they judge the name of the cat that hard, they'll be super bitchy about that fatty is actually fat, and that I'm not doing whatever they've decided is a good call just because they've decided it.
Example- my male dog is intact. I manage his life to ensure I don't create puppies. It's my responsibility, and I take it seriously. He's going to stay intact because at about a year old he started to have tendon problems, and having more testosterone helps his tendons. (he was a stray I got at 6 months, and neutering large breed male dogs before theyre a year old gives them a 200% greater likelihood of hip dysplasia.) I did my research here, and I've met vets that are respectful of my decision... And ones that were not. The ones that weren't always had a problem with Stupid's name.
Sorry, that was probably a rant y'all didn't need. Lol
I appreciate you being awesome, and trying to help a fellow animal lover out.No, I totally get it. I was just suggesting a name change for the vet if it made you uncomfortable. Oh, if that's a goal, I'm failing miserably as well.He has lost most of the weight he gained, but he, like me, will never be svelte again.
