Last September, we had a broody hatch out one chick and I can't for the life of me figure out who the mother is. I know I didn't put a buff orpington egg under the broody so that leaves the buff rooster as the dad.

Potential moms - white plymouth rock, red sex link, barred rock, white pearl leghorn, australorp.

I'm really thinking a white rock is the mom, but the black beak and legs, as well as a dark/dusky cast on the back and wing feathers on the offspring are really throwing me.

Any thoughts?

I was thinking australorp because of the dark legs and beak, but I'm not sure..Because if it was the australorp, you would think that she would be black...But none of the other ones have the dark beak and legs right? Sorry that I can't really help much...I had a hen hatch out chicks last year and I had a hard time figuring out the mothers, too. But I eventually did, so maybe you will too, especially since you don't have 25 different breeds to look through that all lay brown eggs lol :)

Oh and she is a really pretty hen. I think crosses make some of the pretties birds, at least that is my opinion.

Thanks -she is a pretty lady. I was worried for a while because her "teenage" years were not so attractive. LOL.
