Help me find excuse! LOL...

Silkies should only count as 1/2 since they are small so really you would not be adding more.

They followed you home.

If you get to buy more chicks he gets to buy (fill in blank) bribery works wonders.

Explain that two of the girls don't look too good and you're afraid of losing them. If he's anything like my husband, he wouldn't be able to tell a sick chick from a well one unless you tell him. Of course, the girls are really just fine. Also lie and say that you read somewhere that a flock should be at least 6 chickens strong and if you are going to replace them, you need to get two fast so that they will be close in age so you can incorporate them easily. Mope around and look worried. Introduce the breed you want subtly...maybe as computer wallpaper.

When he gives in, your girls make a miraculous recovery and voila`......eight chickens!

when I first got chix I had 6 then the next day there were three more. My husband asked where the other three came from. I feigned ignorance. Now I have 17, it's amaaaaazing how they just multiply.

When I added my two EE's, I just said "That's what I wanted in the first place but couldn't find them." Which is sorta kinda true.

Ok here is what you do This is how I got the DW to allow me to have more I had her help me out with feeding them and chasing them back to the coop and feeding them treats I told her, What happens if I become sick you will have to feed them and gather the eggs and well I don't want you to get attacked because they don't know you............and 12 more birds later that she picked out and the six I picked out with the 6 we already had I would say I won

You could try that or you could just lie and say on BYC people say that you need at least 8-10 chickens (or more) so this way you can have a well rounded flock because you have a real good chance of having 2-3 roosters in the mix (I know I did) so of those 6 there may be 3 roosters now that means those 3 won't lay an egg and we may need to eat them or rehome them so we need to get more to make sure we have enough hens......

Good luck I hope these work for you. (I know it worked for me with my wife

WISH ME LUCK!

In our house I am the husband and I have the weakness for the chicks. Everytime I go to the feedstore for more supplies I am told "NO MORE". I found out how to get around this. I take my wife and both daughters with me to the feed store. And of course we absolutely need something right by the chicks.

Before I know it, they are all asking if we can get this one or that one. Of course I say yes.

A couple of weeks ago we lost a Deleware that was a couple of weeks old. Most of our other chicks were closer to 4 weeks old. We did not want to get another chicks that was just a few days old. I called one feed store that I knew had some chicks about 4 weeks old and they had a couple of Delawares. I told my wife that I was going to go buy a replacement. She decided that she wanted to go (which is what I was hoping would happen.) We got there and picked out a Delaware. Then I pointed out to her that they had some 4 week old Blue Laced Red Wyandotts. They were straight run but I looked at their comb development. One had nearly no comb and it was yellow. I am positive this one is a pullet. The others combs were more developed and pink... Now we have two in our box. Then I pointed out a Columbian Wyandott. Three in our box... Before I could point out anything else she said that she wanted one more EE. No resistance from me... I let her completely pick it out on her own. Four in our box that was only supposed to have one... Mission accomplished! (I was afraid to look any more after the Columbian Wyandott).

Our chick buying is done for this year. We have 7 in the brooder (for about 1 more week), 17 5-6 week olds in the new coop and 15 one year olds in the first coop. Our 24 new birds will likely be reduced by three when the three roosters start crowing and we decide to rehome them.
