I think I know, but I'm not positive and would like to identify what breed Gizmo is. We have 26 buff orphinton's, they're all 5 weeks old (as of tomorrow, Saturday 7-21). The 26 are supposed to all be girls, Gizmo is straight run. I believe I have one rooster in the 26, I don't know how soon to tell if Gizmo is a rooster or not!! Any advice is appreciated!!

I think that Gimzo is a Dominique, and I'm almost willing to bet cockerel.

I would guess gizmo is a cockerel, barred rock or dom. - can't tell whether that's a single comb or pea-ish. The light coloring and early red comb indicates male. I went back to look at my rock's 5 week pics, and my pullet is much darker and has NO color in her comb - well...yellowish.

Thank you! I am going back and forth between Dominique and Barred Rock - they both look so similar to me.

What makes you think cockerel? I'm basing it on the fact that he/she is straight run. Not very scientific! ;)

The more other pictures I look at, the more I lean towards barred rock as well...and yes, Gizmo does have the "look" of a cockerel to my very inexperienced eyes!! Thanks for your help, I appreciate it! :)

So there ya' go OP - Does the little whipper snapper have a single comb or a more flattish looking comb (because it was hard for me to tell in your pic)? That will tell you his breed.
Either breed, the females feather in a lot darker, less white feathering.

I have three BR, one quite dark and two much lighter. They have all been ID'd on here as roos. So that might not always be the case is darkness. The comb does does not look single to me and I would guess Dominique roo.
