I'm mostly fine with waiting to figure out what breed my assorted chicks from Meyer are. I ordered 10 rare, 5 brown layers, and 13 of the 16 (also got a Meal Maker) survived the first 24 hours. Hatch date was 5/26. These two chicks are a complete mystery to me, though!

Chick #1 has feathered legs.

Chick #2 is nearly the same color as my lavender Orpingtons (slightly lighter) but is definitely not an Orpington.

Quite honestly too many possibilities for those chick down colors, especially the lavender-grey chick. It could be anything from Lavender Orpington to Blue Australorp to even Blue Marans (American style, no foot feathering).

Also can't see profile of chick #1. Foot feathering lowers the number of possibilities for rare brown layer, but need to see profile of chick, comb type, etc. With foot feathering only on the outside leg and toe, Marans, French style, springs to mind, but the feather pattern is a bit off unless you have a very mossy back French Copper Marans. Need to see more of that chick.

My thoughts.
