New guy here and first time with chickens. Currently have 44 chicks of a few different breeds. My plan is to keep as many layers as my coop will hold and use the rest as broilers. The pic attached is of the dimensions of the coop. My plan is to completely box in where the X is at in the upper left hand corner for a nesting box room for nesting boxes and roosts. There will be a little door for them to get into a 10’x30’ indoor run(shaded area on right side) that will have welded wire separating it from the 10’x20’ area of the inside. Then put 10’ wide outdoor runs off of 3 of the walls.
How many hens could stay comfortable in this size setup? They’ll always have access to the indoor run and would like to keep their feed and water out there. I’m going to cover the ceiling and walls with OSB and barn tin so the building won’t be drafty. Will any insulation be necessary? Thanks for any pointers. The kids and I are both excited to start in the chicken business.
