y'all know Templeton.

the firstest ever baby duck i hatched.

well, he's alittle over a month old now, going on 5 weeks.

I was really hoping that he'd have been a girl,(wich I thought he was at about 3 weeks) he's just like his father, very layed back, not very vocal, so he hardly, if ever peeps.

when he does, it's the squeaky peep still, not with that familiar "onk" that hens start to get. so I'm pretty sure he really is a HE.

I love this duck todeath. last night I decided to sit with them for awhile because I hadn't done so for a bit, I always go into the brooder and sit with them and love on them after they go up at night.

well, Temps did the sweetest thing ever, I never expected it(I think he's jelous of the new babies) he climbed into my lap, tucked his head into my arm, and napped for about 10ish minutes while I petted his back.

now he's always been abit stand offish, I guess cause he spent his first 2 days under a chicken. never really liked to be petted, that was Elliot the TSC ruens job. now the roles seem reversed.

I have 5 older ducklings in the brooder right now(of wich the crested pekin, is for sure a female, and the mallard mix might be) everyone else I think are drakes, there in LAYS that problem. In the adult pen I've got 8 mature drakes, and a total of 6 mature hens(discluding the muscovies), of wich THREE are brooding, well 3 1/2, Stencil has recently taken to sitting on her sister Akai's 5 mallard eggs with her(silly runners).

anyways, in my brain I KNOW I do not need anymore drakes right now, maybe if/once the pen is inlarged(but I'm also hoping that I'm getting a smaller pen for the mallards). I can fit another drake in there.

but right now I have no room, I've been trying, without success oddly enough, to rehome atleast 2 of my troublesome call drakes, because I can never find any hens.

I need to make a decision within the next few weeks, do I keep Templeton, and suck up having 9 drakes with not enough hens to go around.

or do I find him a home?

there's another problem, I'd want to keep tabs on him, and not many people would do that.

what do you peoples think?

(oddly I've got no problem with rehoming Elliot, or the runner mix that I was also hoping was a girl, but Templeton is different.

Why can't you rehome the one of the other drakes? Do what your heart tells you. (cheesy yet true.)

I have to agree... Do what feels right. If that means re-homing another drake, than that's what you should do. It's always a hard decision, but usually if you do what your gut tells you, it'll be alright

I agree, follow your heart. Right now I have 3 drakes and one hen (Pekins). I decided to get a couple more hens instead of choosing a drake or two to rehome. My husband's not going to be happy but oh well.

Follow your heart darling.
