Help me make a hard decision!!!!

yeah......just wait and see what you have and who you might not be as bonded with. Yours kids might find any less than friendly ones easier to give up too. I am not good at giving any away either. But when the time comes, you will probably find a BYC member to offer a great home to the ones you might want to part with.

I have 3 BR's. Lucy is 4 weeks and has a moderate size comb that's getting a bit of red on the outsides, no wattles yet. Tweedle and DeeDee are 1 week old, and arrived with little combs- which is odd because Lucy did not have one when she was little.

Then I have Sara- my 4 week old Brahma and my pride and joy. If I gave away some BR's I bet I'd find myself getting another brahma. This would destroy my "the rules say" argument.

Then there's 2 blue cochins, both a week old. Sugar and Pous-Pous. They are adorable puff balls that will probably grow to the size of a maine coon cat.

It seems like a lot of people want slightly older pullets anyway- laying or close to. The cochins won't ever lay very much, but as long as they are friendly, and don't go crazy broody on me, I don't mind keeping them on.

I would involve the kids. We ordered six, lost one, chick-sat four others and are going to have to rehome one of the mean, pecking one. My daughter (age 8) was getting close to the ones we chick-sat but knew they would be leaving. I've been upfront with her about the mean one having to move somewhere else. Tell the kids you got six but realize that you only "need" three and that you thought it would be fun to help find homes for the others. Ask them to help you pick which ones to keep. Then let them be involved in "interviewing" the new chicken owners. Kids seem to do well as long as things aren't sprung on them and they get to be part of the process.

Hey, Lucy is the name of one of my BR's as well! But she's easy to catch

If it's any consolation, they do tend to mellow out as they mature...

I'd wait a bit and see - once they are at the point of lay you will have no problem finding homes for them.

My red sexlinks don't like to be handled either. I know they would run if I had to catch them to bring them in. The black sexlinks seem to like being handled. However, they all will come up and eat out of my hand. Will Lucy come for snacks? Food seems to be the way to their heart
