Hi,

I have a hen that is acting as if she is really cold. All puffed up. Tail down and chest up. She just stands there and closes her eyes as if something is not quite right.

What could be wrong with her?

I have a picture of her, but I can't figure out how to post it.

Does anyone know about giving shots to chickens?

Thanks for any help you can give.

It could be that your hen is too cold.

Is there a way you can bring her inside in a pet carrier or something?

My roo had this happen last week. We couldn't get to him or the rest of the brood for 3 days because of a downed electrical line in our back yard.

By the time we did, he was so "fatigued" and tired acting.

I don't know if he's actually an older roo, or being a banty, just weaker to cold...

But, we brought him in, bought electrolytes to put in his water, and wrapped him in towels we'd microwave for about 30 seconds to help warm him.

He's still not as spunky right now as he was...but he's much better than he was so far.

I had an older chick act like that, I added a heat lamp back to the brooder. Then I added a bit of fresh garlic to the water to boost the immune system. She perked up after a few days and is the prettiest little blue wheaten ameraucana easter-egger.

It has been cool, but only one other chicken is acting like this. All the others are fine. She does seem a little better when it is warmer, but not much. I have a cat carrier in the coop, but she doesn't go in there. I've noticed she seemed to drink a lot of water.

I took my messy butt chicken in the house and used the spray thing on the sink with warm water to break down the mess and clean her up. Maybe that would help. You can always clean and sanitize the sink later.

If you want to email me the pic, i will post it for you. but you gotta do it now, i go to work soon.
