Hi there! So i am planning on getting a new hen in the summer. But i’m kinda new with chickens, so i don’t know what kind i should get? I currently have a rhode island white and a ISA brown. One is around 6-8 months and one is around 2-3 months. They get along great. I have some requirements though. First of all, I need a very cold hardy chicken. Next, i need a very good egg laying (large to XL size egg) Third, I need a medium sized chicken. I also need a pretty friendly one, and it need to be quiet. Last, i would like it to be pretty, but doesn’t everyone? I know, it’s a lot of requests, but the main ones are egg laying, and quiet. It has to be quiet because i’m not allowed to have chickies in my neighborhood so shhh!! :lol:Thank you so much!:bow

My Orpingtons lay well and can be fairly quiet as far as chickens go. Generally heavier breeds are less rambunctious than lighter breeds who tend to make more noise.

I like buff Orpington, their eggs are pretty but inconsistent but they’re very friendly and super soft and fluffy, Silver laced Wyandottes are beautiful but mine isn’t friendly and hates being touched even though she was held a lot as a chick and was raised from a very young age,

thank you guys! i am planning on building a coop based off of this one, would a buff orpington and my two others work with this coop?

A silkie may be a good choice. They are very quiet (at least mine are!). They are VERY cute. Contrary to what most websites say mine laid an egg almost every day! The eggs are smaller though because it is a bantam (you might be able to find a non-bantam version but I'm not so sure.) They are typically very friendly. I think (I'm not positive) they are cold hardy also. They meet about all of your requirements!

Mine have never gotten too dirty, and I have a white one! Her feet do get a bit dirty when its muddy out but I have never needed to give her a bath, she cleans herself.
