OK! So everyone was telling me my humidity was way to high (80%) so I opened the vents and got my humidity down to 70%! I had one egg start cracking yesterday, was moving all day, thought for sure it was going to be here by now!

I looked and saw no movement! So I freaked out thinking for sure I drowned him!

NOPE!! Shrink wrapped!! So now what do I do?

I have a wet paper towel wrapped around him and is in the bator, their is a few vessels their and I don't see a hole in the membrane!

PLEASE ADVISE!!!

OK!

I see no hole in the membrane still! The baby is moving around thought!

Do I need to make a hole?

I moisten the membrane with my finger tip and warm water and zipped a bit more of the shell and stopped when I saw a little blood.

I really could use some advice! THANKS!

Id say poke a hole in the membrane and leave it. It still might need to absorb some yolk. By the way what are you hatching?

Please leave it be; the more you mess with it, the greater chances are that it won't make it. It's IMPERATIVE to keep the temp and humidity STABLE during hatch. If you see blood or vessels, he's not ready to hatch yet. Hang in there!

I am hatching Buff Orpington and Black Australops!

Is it going to hurt for me to lay a wet paper towel over the tops of them all? I really don't want to poke a hole in the membrane, because I agree it my need more time, but I want to make sure that the membrane stays nice and moist.

I agree with what Wynette said. I don't know what day you're on but I think you should stop messing around with it. You said that your humidity was too high & so you'd pulled the plugs & it came down, does that mean that both plugs were in through the whole incubating process? Eggs need the air to circulate for developement & I usually pull plugs 1 at a time over weeks but I start pretty early. Your eggs have heat, humidity & air circulation now so I'd leave it be.... If you're seeing blood you don't want to be pushing before the chick is ready to hatch. What day are you on? from pipping to zipping it could be 12 to 24 hours.

If you want mositure just use a light misting bottle of room temp water. I wouldn't lay anything on top.

I had to hand turn them 3 times a day, so they got fresh air exchange daily during day 1-18! And then I locked down that night.

I only opened on vent to let the humidity out, only because I was told it was WAY to high!

I have a wet paper towel wrapped around the one I zipped, I am going to just put a few wet towels on the floor.

So he "might" be OK if I just keep him wrapped up and leave him alone?

Now I am kicking myself in the butt! But hey i would have never knew that my humidity was low if I didn't!

I am on day 21/ 22 depends on how you count! I say day 22!

I wouldn't wrap them in anything. I can't see how he can continue to zip if you wrap him/her up? If the humidity is at 70% it's high enough & if you think they need more mositure just spritz it with a misting bottle..... I would take the paper towel off & both plugs are suppose to be removed on day 18. I think the last time I incubated I didn't even put the plugs in. They need air circulation for development. If this is one of the styrofoam ones I think they even put in extra air holes aside from the ones with the plugs.

OK! I will take the other vent cover off! But won't keeping JUST the membrane exposed dry it out?
