Help me understand Blue Laced Red Wyandotte color genetics!

Yup! I'm just going to stick with my current projects.

I know this is an older topic but my question I think fits...

This young rooster is Jersey Giant (roo) on a Gold Laced Wyandotte hen. He grew into a very nice bird with stunning coloration. I am now considering getting some BLRW hens for him. How does does his genetic makeup affect his colors? Is there any point to what I am considering or is he dominant for one color over another and I should go in a different direction? My goal was nice birds with good coloring.

Would there be any reason to not consider a Silver Laced x Splash Blue Laced Red cross? If I'm understanding it is an okay match.

Photo of my new roo.

Thanks!

I just picked up a cockerel that is a Splash Laced Red Wyandotte. So i have similar questions as you. I have a silver laced wyandotte hen in which id love to cross him with.

As the genetics go, Bl (blue) is just a greying dilution of the black gene color. it is also incompletely dominate. So having neither copy of the Bl gene results in the wild type bl+/bl+ uniform black color on the lacing. Having just one of the dilution(lightens) gene Bl/bl+ will produce a blue color. And having two copies of the dilution (lightest) gene Bl/Bl will appear as Splash (can be as light as light grey!)

Splash Laced Red Wyandotte x Silver Laced
Bl/Bl x bl+/bl+
So review..

Bl/Bl = complete dominate SPLASH (light blue)
Bl/bl+ = incomplete dominate BLUE
bl+/bl+ = wild type no dilution of BLACK

If you take a Silver Laced x Splash Laced Red

100% of the chicks will carry Bl/bl+ = Blue

(at this point im just jotting down punnetts squares)
If you back cross the Blue to the Splash, 50% will be Splash 50% will be Blue.
If you back cross the Blue to the Silver, 50% Wild(uniblack), 50% will be Blue.
If you cross the Blue chicks to themselves, 50% will be Blue, 25% will be Splash(greyblue), and 25% will be Wild (uni black).

and so on and so forth......

Here is my very Bl/Bl Splash Laced Red Wyandotte cockerel. There is no black seen on his body feathers at all. just a darkgreyblue on his tail feathers.

I have a beautiful splash rooster. I know what I will get if I bred him to splash hens, splash. If I bred him to blue hens I would get 50% splash and 50% blue, correct?

Oh maybe you can help me understand. We have 2 red laced wyandottes from really reputable breeders. We wanted more so we bred them - as you said we 50%splash and 50% BLR. The problem is that one BLR cockerel has a single comb??? One hen (or so I think) has a rose comb with a spike in the back and the other 2 cockerels have a rose comb with a spike in the back. How did we get a single comb? Is the spike ok for this breed? And is my hen really a cockerel who is a slow bloomer?

Thank you
