Any guess what color this poult might be? It was an egg hatched from a mixed pen, thrown in with some silkie eggs, in a hatching egg purchase. Don't recall there being any red or buff turkeys in the pen. Sorry photos are not great.
What a cute little poult! I don't have an answer to your question, but I had 2 light yellow turkey babies hatch and I'm also curious to find out what their color might be when they grow up. The hens are all Royal Palms, and the boys are 1 Eastern Wild, 2 bronze and brown/white (I forget the breed name right now lol). Any ideas?
Well, it sure looks like its going to be red! It is easy to imagine a pen full of birds that don't look red but carry red genes. Red bronze, for example, don't really look like they are halfway betwen a standard bronze and a bourbon red. They look much more like the bronze. But breed to red bronze together and you will get plenty of bourbon reds. Similarly, Golden naragansetts don't really look red, but they each have a red gene as well. Calicos are Royal Palms with a red gene. I would guess that there were plenty of red genes floating around that breeding pen, even if none of the adults looked red.
