As if I didn’t know hatching call ducks was going to be hard enough…

I’ve lost several call duck hatchlings for this same reason and idk what to do or how to help. They can’t hold up their heads and can’t get their legs under them to stand. Even after 3 days of working with them. And they still aren’t eating or drinking. I have been assisting them with drinking water with added electrolytes, selenium, and vitamin E but just flops around and don’t seem to be improving.

Welcome to BYC, and sorry for your losses.

Questions:
  1. Are you planning on hatching more?
  2. Are the ducklings from your eggs, or are they shipped eggs?

Yes, I want to hatch many more. I have 8 more in the incubator currently. Yes, the eggs I’m hatching are from call ducks I have that are laying.

More questions...
  • What incubator?
  • What temp?
  • What humidity?
  • On what day do they pip internally?
  • Are you assisting?

I use the chickcozy incubator. Temp at 99. Humidity at 55 until day 23 then up to 70. They pipped internally on day 26 and yes I assist. With the first 3 shrink wrapped and everything I’ve been reading, call ducks have a difficult time pipping thru the shell

I placed a dozen call ducks in the incubator and only 4 made it past day 12 or so. Those 4 hatched beautifully on their own. I am committed to not helping any hatch out to avoid birds that are too weak to have survived. I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. It’s heartbreaking.
