I had a broody sit, but obviously she is not set out to raise them! She ate my pipping EE chick! She opened the barred rock baby and had her in the mouth. I walked in the right at that moment to check the first hatching egg.

Will the chick be okay? I have one more that is hatching in my emergency homemade incubator. I can get the temp right, but the humidity is tricky. I put wet napkins in there. I here it peeping inside the egg. I humidity at 50%. Will that be enough?

Chicks should be hatched at 58% to 70% humidity. They do best at 63% to 65% humidity. Hope for the best.

Thank you!

The one that was in her mouth was suppose to hatch tomorrow. It's doing well. There's another pipping, so if it makes it, I will have 2 in the brooder.

Darn it! I'm so upset that she ate a live baby! I'm very upset with her at the moment, but I understand it's nature.

There's the chick she hatched and in her mouth. This chick is doing amazingly well.

I'd going to say the 50% humidity will work fine and congratulations! If you can get it a little higher that would be even better as long as you do not go past 65%. Best of luck.

sorry to burst in on this thread but I have been advised that humidity should be 70-80% for lockdown.

Which is correct?

I am now a confused first-time incubator.
