I was hoping someone could me, I have a month old colt that can not stand on his back legs. He has been this way for a week. Up till then he was healthy. He is still eating and drinking. I just don't know what to do.

I am hoping he comes out of this.

Have you called your vet to ask what the reason may be? I would do that and see what they suggest. I've never had one do that but it is not a good sign if they can't stand up on their legs for this long.
Keep us updated~

eta: I wonder if he injured his spine playing somehow..??? Sending prayers for your little guy...I'm stumped.

Well I think he might have gotten kicked. We called the vet and he should be by tonight. When we talked to the vet he said that he could have a spinal problem.

He can bear weight on his legs, but my husband has to hold him steady. I will keep you updated. thank you.

The vet did say something about Wobbler's. He came from my husband's sister. They were going to kill him, and so we brought him home. I am not sure what breed he is. My husband does, but his father and mother both are show horses. He is black and white spotted. What is Wobbler's? Can they recover from that?

See if another vet can come out sooner. Are you close to a vet teaching hospital. I would get him somewhere that has the ability for xrays, mri's if you want to go that far. I have foals of my own here, so I know what you are going through. Are you able to get baby to nurse for nutrition. So sorry, wish I could be of more help.

Yes he is eating and drinking. He has been trying to get up and can't. He is very aware of what is going on. If you could him you would think he is a normal foal, but he just can not stand on his back legs.

He sounds like a wobbler...unfortunately it's a congenital problem and it only gets worse with time...no treatment...sorry.
