HELP! Mother Duck Killed- How long can Eggs Survive W/O Heat?

OH KATHY!!!!!!!!!
I'm so EXCITED & ECSTATIC...........HURRAY!!!!! This is the BEST news I've heard in a very long time!!!!!! So Miracle #1 is named Kramer........how CUTE!!!!! Kathy(and your family) CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! YOU DID IT!!!!! Oh, we'll all need to see pics soon(smile).......what color is the little darlin'???! Is he/she peeping.....that'll definitely get the siblings more motivated!!!! I'm so very happy!!! I know there's a Mother Muscovy watching from "the other side" with much love, gratitude and a tear of joy in her eye!!!!! Be sure to keep us updated!!!!!! Excellent work, Kathy!!!!!! Five more to go.......everyone out there, please send "good vibes" their way!!! Even ONE duckling born under these circumstances is a major victory.

What a gorgeous baby!!!!! Very beautiful coloring!!!! Be sure to thank your kids for helping out......we really needed all the help we could get(smile)!!!! I'm honored to be "long distance Midwife".....thanks for allowing me to help out!!But, it's not over quite yet!! His talking should help encourage his siblings to join him....we'll have to wait and see!!!! Make some popcorn(smile)......this is better than ther movies!!! Speak to you soon!!!! Kramer is dried off pretty well and preening and looking for something to nibble (like the inside of the bator- NOT a good idea)… the second egg to pip has a lot of cracks, so I think we'll see Duck Norris kick out tonight. Two others have bulged pips that look like they're coming along. One has just the beginnings of the pip. The last egg has tapping coming from it, so he's just Johnny-come-lately I guess. Humidity and temp are a steady 76% and 97º, and except for Kramer moving around and nibbling on the paper "tray" under each egg, everything is calm with the ducklings busy pecking their shells. Waiting…

Kathy, since part of Kramer's other job, since hatching successfully, is to encourage the other ducklings, should he continue to stay in the bator tomorrow or move to the brooder (possibly alone if his siblings don't "move their tail-feathers") so he can drink and eat? He's pretty active- must've worked up an appetite the past few days! I do hope he can't pick off any of the styrofoam on the rim of the bator. The nourishment from the yolk should normally see them through an extra day or so, right? ~ Kathy

* Just checked on Kramer- he is truly annoying the last egg, nibbling on the paper and messing with it, rocking it around a little- and he keeps opening his mouth and shaking his little head as if he's trying to clear something out. I did pull a nasty little wad of leftover "egg poo" from his beak earlier after he preened himself and got some "leftovers" stuck in his mouth (the rest was in the back of his egg where he left it at hatch

).

And Teresa, last duck I had since my ducks back home was an unplanned baby mallard (it was left out overnight with another duckling without brooder warmth by another family, and the other one died) - which we raised, in a dog crate, in an apartment while I was pregnant with my first girl. Poor thing was so imprinted, she finally had to be clued in that she was a duck by putting her with a flock of mallards! My last pic of Mallory is of her asleep on a towel on my big pregnant belly… I don't recommend apartment ducks, but it did work for about four months (with bleach for the bathtub!)

Duck Norris arrived, kicking his way out at 11:30 pm, and in ninja colors: black (wet) fuzz, black feet, and black bill. Kramer assisted, hurrying over to help out.

How about a couple of call ducks or something small? They'd have each other for company, and you could enjoy having ducks! I was reading another thread on installing a drain on baby pools, so there are ways to make cleanup easier, as well as ideas for nice coops for smaller spaces. I eventually want to fix a nice aviary/pond for a pair of mandarins, but I really have to finish some yard and house projects first… plus I have this habit of rescuing things…

I wish I had a bigger place like where I grew up, but I'm making do. I WILL say that helping my friend on their 10-acre spread has cured me of wanting more than 3-5 acres! ~ Kathy
