Someone please help! I have any array of different ducks and a couple turkeys that all live together, so I'll give a summary as best I can of what I have and their situation.
Saturday, my husband noticed scabs on our Muscovy drake, but didn't think to tell me. Yesterday, I saw them in the afternoon, and then when husband was home to help I took pictures last night. They were worse just a few hours later at night. Now today, he was secluding himself and spreading out his wings (I couldn't see from where I was at, but I'm guessing also stretching his neck?). He also is walking slower and more labored and tipping more with his waddle. And it's very strange that I can catch him with no trouble! What is this? What can I do to help him?
A history: We have 2 Muscovy drakes, and 2 ducks. The drakes do not seem to fight, or at least I don't see it. One duck is nesting with our female turkey, and the other duck is building a nest and beginning to sit a bit too. As of this morning, all the other Muscovies were ok.
We have 2 Indian runners, and 5 Rouen ducks, and 1 Rouen drake. They all seem ok, other than lighter/pale feathers on the Rouens. We have two Royal Palm turkeys, 1 male and 1 female. The male thinks he's a duck and stays with the Muscovies, and the female (who was not being mated) is sitting the nest with a Muscovy duck. They seem both healthy, but our male turkey has lost a big group of feathers. He does roost right where the nest is, so I'm wondering if they are taking his feathers to fluff their nest? If anyone also has turkeys, please advise on that as well in case he is not healthy.
For feeding/watering: they have a self filling water dish that I rinse out twice a day, and two kiddie pools that get changed once a day. They also have access to a pond/woods/marsh. The Muscovies do not seem to have a great interest in the pond, but do wander into the woods and marsh. For feeding, I give them 50/50 layer pellets from Fleet Farm and a poultry mix from our co-op. I also add in just a bit of cracked corn for the turkeys. I feed this all mixed together and they all eat together. I have been doing it this way for about 9 months? They also have free choice calcium/oyster shell. I picked up a poultry vitamin from Fleet Farm and gave that mixed with their water bowl middle of last week. It was about a quarter tsp in over a quart of water. Was that too strong? It had different mixture amounts listed on the bag for different ages/breeds, so I thought that was the best amount.
