HELP-- my 11 wks old silkie's eye is sealed shut and crusted--

I just noticed my young silkie's eye is crusted shut. I do not know how long it has been that way. The other eye is fine. I also noticed that on the side that has the sealed eye, there's a red thing dangling under the beak where it's black on the other side with the normal eye. I have a flock of 12 chickens. I have had all of the them since they were two days old. 5 of the chickens, including this sick one, came from mypetchicken and the rest from a reputable store. Is this serious and could it affect the other chickens in my flock, since they have all been together since the beginning. I used warm water and cotton balls and unsealed the eye. It's opened now but I do not know if it will seal back up. This silkie is eating and drinking just fine, and doesn't act sick. This is my first experience raising chickens so I am new to this. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks. Felicia

It might have happened from pecking or other injury. Keep cleaning it, and you could always separate the bird if you think it might have a disease.
