HELP!!! My 4 week old chick got string tied around it's tounge!

I'm panicing, one of my 4 week old chicks has been tearing at the towels laid at the bottom of their brooder. Somehow, it managed to pull a sting out and tried to eat it. Now there's a knot tied around half of its tounge, and it's tore into it by a little and the tounge is disformed. The chick is very stressed, but somehow it's still eating. I'm lost on what to do, should I cut the tounge off or something?!?! Cull the chick?! HELP!

I'd leave it be, after removing the string of course. But then I've been accused of benign neglect. I think you'd do more damage cutting off the tongue.

Tweezers and nail clippers and cut it off the chicks tongue if you can!

I can't even see the string....that's how embeded it is in it's tounge. Should I just leave it there? I can't belive it's still eating...

Anyone??? It's been eating but some of the food is still staying in it's beak. I don't think it can swallow properly.

You need to get someone to help you. Hold the chick and open the mouth. Use tweezers to find the string. Cut the string using nail clippers. You are going to have to find the string. You can do it. Focus, stay calm, block out everything else other than the task at hand. Do not cut off the tongue. Leaving the string on is not a good idea. Get a magnifying glass if you need to. Do you have someone there that can hold the chick for you while you clip the string?

Ugh, you have three choices.

1. Leave it be. Hope the tongue part that's on the outer side dies and falls off, leaving the rest okay.

2. Try to cut the string off, probably cutting the tongue in the process, resulting in cutting the tongue off.

3. Cull.

My suggestion is the vet's office. They can sedate him... they have precision tools.. they maybe could cut it off without losing his tongue in the process.

A vet *might* even be able to snip the string off and only charge you for an office call....
