I have a week old baby that has had a poopy butt for the last couple of days. I have been cleaning it with water to remove the impact, very carefully. Wet warm water and slowly taking it off his butt to make sure i didnt damage anything. I put petrolium on his backside today after i cleaned it and he was fine. Now i went into the brooder and found the other has picked him so bad he is bleeding and trying to get away from everyone by hidding behind the water. What do I do? I have already lost so many from other things I dont want to lose another one!!!!

Clean the area and put a good triple antibiotic on it or neosporin make sure it does not have pain reliver in it...nothing with "caine" in it that can be fatal to them.

Separate little onw (one) with a studded (stuffed) animal if you have it and let him heal. Make sure when he breathes there is not a sucking or sloshy noise coming from his vent area...if so, his air sac may be ruptured.

Make sure you give him elctrolytes in his water.

Sheesh typo...I meant to say Separate little one with a stuffed animal LOL my gosh my fingers need sleep. Sorry about that.

so last night, well about 2 this morning i put my baby in his own brooder next to his purple bear. today he is eating and pooping good so i hope he makes it. could it have been the petrolium that i put their to prevent more pasty butt cause it is shiny? i dont want to repeat my mistake again.

I use the lip balm 'Chicken Poop' on the pasty booties...It's kind of matte and not petroleum based. I think it helps.

Hope your little baby is ok and gets well fast!
