You dont need to explain your self to anyone. I am sure you were well aware of your options and if not, it did not need to be repeated so many times. That was a bit much

Good luck to you, you have your hands full

That was good of you to check and it's true, some areas just don't have particpating vets just yet. Sorry to hear that's the case in your neck of the woods. FoA has told me that when they don't have anyone in a particular area they recommend that people call animal control and ask them to provide a list of low cost spay/neuter opportunties in the area or they recommend googling "low cost spay/neuter" and see what comes up locally. Anyway, the important thing right now is that she comes through this okay which I know we all hope for. Sending nothing but best wishes that she and her kittens will be alright. Be well.

Usually a couple hours after the contractions start she should have a kitten.

Make sure that when the kittens are around 6 weeks old you get the mother cat spayed. Spaying prevents unwanted kittens (for every kitten born a kitten dies in a shelter), and helps prevent ovarian cancer and breast cancer in cats, it also keeps tom cats from comming around. Second, if you are worried about the cost, contact your local animal shelter, usually they have spay neuter clinics where it is half of what the vets charge to spay. Please spay her.

In the long run it is wayyyyyyy cheaper to get her fixed, rather than to keep her having litter after litter, which also takes a major toll on her body.

I checked it out of curiosity and the coupons cost more than my vet charges!!

Well I took her to the vet and they put her down. They wanted $500 up front for the c section and said the kittens were already dead. She didn't even have any milk in. It was so sad, I think that it was the hardest decision I have ever had to make. I couldn't let her suffer anymore. Thanks everybody for the advice, I appreciate it.

I have stated over and over that I was going to get her fixed after she had the kittens! I don't need it repeated over and over, by people that don't even know the situation! I was given incorrect advice from a vet and now my cat had to die because of it.

Thank you that makes me feel a little better.

What a sad ending - I was hoping she would pull through OK for you.

The sad reality is that animals are not people, and sometimes you just don't have the resources to 'do everything' to try to save them.

You made a tough decision, but take comfort in that your kitty only knew peace and relief at the end. We are the ones who dwell on the past and worry about the future. Animals pretty much live in the present and her present situation was suffering and pain.

Hugs to you...

I am so sorry you lost your kitty. My heart breaks for you. I have 2 barn kitties in labor at this very moment. One does seem to be having trouble. She hasnt moved for almost 24 hrs now. I take her food and water but she doesn't show any interest. Like you I am very worried for her. Hubby and I have an agreement. Only our inside animals get to go to the vet. Mother nature rules out side the house. Sometimes it is so hard. I love them all the same, wether they sleep on my bed or on the front porch. However he works very hard so I can be a stay at home Mom. (My teenager suffered a TBI last July and needs me) So I cant disagree with him. I know you made a hard choice and you should be commended for that. You obviously cared very much for her. You are in my thoughts today. Tanya
