Help! My Chicken ate an apple seed!

Hi, I have an emrgency. My 15 week old pullet naked neck was eating a green apple and she ate an apple seed. I heard that those can kill them with cyanide.She only ate one. So should I do something. Please if you could give me some tips, that would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

I have fed my chickens fallen apples and apple cores. They have eaten many seeds and I never had a problem.

Now, I have a very young flock that is not laying yet. They have been given a few apple cores. In the past, I raised chickens for about 30 years and also had a small orchard on the property. So, they ate a lot of apple and pear seeds over the years. They would often run in the orchard.

If they eat far to many of the seeds it can cause issues. Your girl will be fine.

She'll be fine. Yes in a laboratory test you can find cyanide in apple seeds. If you fed her a bag of seeds you may have to worry. The amount in one seed isn't likely to do anything.

An article about apple seeds in humans, I couldn't find one directly related to chickens. The quantity of cyanide doesn't change depending on what eats it so numbers should still be relavent.
