Today my neighbors dog escaped from the neighbers house and decided it would be a good idea to chase one of my maturing hens and took a deep bite in her neck and get a good peice out of her, when few hours past I found my hen laying under the coop with her head on the ground I picked her up gently to see their wasn't any serious bleeding but a few peices of live skin was hanging and I was pretty sure I could see some of the bone

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I'm sorry it's not under better circumstances and that you have an injured hen :hugs The main thing is to keep the wound clean infection from a dog bite could soon set in and cleanliness is paramount in these situations. You have done the right thing putting her somewhere quiet can you make it so it's dark for her? This should help too with the shock of the attack. Shock can be a killer just as much as the wounds. If the wounds are very deep as it sounds because you can see bone, could you get her to a vet?
Please do post on the emergencies section for further help with your hen. Here is the link > https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures

Wishing you the very best of luck with her, I hope she is well soon. My fingers are firmly crossed for you :fl

Actually peroxide burns the healthy tissues as well as the damaged .you can clean wounds with saline solution, If you can get Neosporin (no caine) product, you could put that on/in the wounds.

Chickens usually have remarkable recuperative powers if infection doesn't set in, and flies don't lay eggs in the wound. Maggots can cause more trouble than the original
wounds.

I am so sick of neighbors dogs getting loose- more likely it's always escaping, or running loose to terrorize the neighborhood. I'm sure you neighbor would show no remorse and offer no compensation towards any vet bills. People do that out here as well - the dogs off by itself, they don't have to clean up after them and they can pretend they don't even know the dog was loose.

I am a dog lover, and mine were perfectly content in a fenced area where they caused no grief to anyone and no stray dogs could get to them.. It's lazy, irresponsible people that insist on letting them roam.

I do hope your hen will have the best possible outcome.

Welcome to BYC!

I hope your girl will be alright. Please post on the emergency link Yorkshire Coop has provided you with.

Dogs are probably the number 1 predator posted about on BYC. Do you have protection in place to keep your birds safe from future roaming dogs? If you need help with that, let us know.

Good luck to you and your injured girl.

I will take your advice with heart a pray that she pull through, the next moring I went to check on her and she is still kicking(in a good way) but she isn't eating it drinking much(and will any neosporin do?)the dog that attacked my hen is getting punished by his owners and I have received compensation the dog managed to escape his leash by pulling the pick out of the ground and wreck havoc on my coop

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your hen, hope she recovers.

Welcome to BYC !!
Keep wound clean. Keep her separate. Give her some eggs to eat. Try hand feeding if she won't eat.
