Hi, I got this chick today to what is wrong with it and it keeps falling on it’s back and won’t walk. I have been using a spoon to put vitamin water in the chicks mouth. Is there anything I can do to cure this issue.
Vitamin E deficiency can cause balance issues in new chicks. Regular vitamins do not contain an adequate amount, however. You need to get regular vitamin E 400iu capsules and give the chick the contents of one capsule per day along with a very tiny amount of selenium.
If the chick is eating, mix the oil from the capsule into a tiny amount of chick feed to form a mash. If you mix some egg with it, that will take care of the selenium.
Where did the chick come from—a breeder, a feedstore, hatchery? Does it’s leg seem far apart, compared to others? Splay or spraddle leg might be a possibility. It could be dehydrated, or have other problems. Vitamins would be very good to use now. SaveAChick, or a few drops of Poultry cell or NutriDrench would be good.
