This is a young pullet. Just starting to lay. The one side feels like an egg. I have no idea what to do for her. I sprayed it with vetricin. She is separated from the rest. Just noticed it tonight. Please help!

Is that her vent? Looks like a prolapse. Soak her in warm epsom salt water for at least 20 mins to soften the area and reduce swelling. This may be enough for her to pass the egg. @Eggcessive

Yes, I agree that it looks like a prolapsed cloaca or vent, and the egg is caught. This can be a hard situation, and many people are wrongly tempted to cut the egg out. First try to remove the egg by searching for the opening to the vent. There are openings to the oviduct and the intestines, so look for the oviduct opening. Here is a video that may help:

I agree with the prolapsed vent. I have soaked her. She took that surprisely well. Will keep watching the video. Thanks for your help

Have you had any luck finding the vent opening to try and manipulate the egg out? Overly large eggs can cause egg binding and sometimes a proolapse will occur. Egg binding can be caused by a lack of calcium, dehydration, too large of an egg, young pullets laying too early before their muscles can work properly, and other causes. Be sure to keep the prolapsed red tissue lubricated and kept from drying out. Honey is good, and you may use other mild oils or hydrocortisone cream. Once the egg is retrieved, you will want to push the prolapse back inside.
