That sounds like coccidiosis. Are they on a medicated starter? At this stage they'll need antibiotics. I think amprolium is the one to use. I'll find the link for treating coccidiosis. In the meantime, until you get the antibiotics, replace their water with milk and put powdered milk crumbles in their food, it will help until you get some antibiotics into them. Are they still eating and drinking?

Here is the link for coccidiosis

Good luck, I hope your chicks recover!

I lost 3 foals from using straw from a field where the farmer spread cow manure.
This was after 27 years of never loosing one. As soon as I changed bedding I had heathy foal again. Horrible way to learn.
So...it very well could be you introduced it with the mulch....

So sorry.

they have cocci! I just went through the same thing except mine did not act lathargic. blood and then died. I managed to save 2 of my 9 white rocks. either put them on corid or sulmet fast they die very quick with this stuff

it is coccidiosis
and you need to get them some medication
the soil has the coccidiosis germs in it

they stay in the soil no matter what.

should get some amproylium such as corid
but if you can't you can use the sulmet
here is my best way to get them going immediately

(A try the
wet mash medicated to give the sulmet?
feed it the first two days in morning
when eaten clean wet feeder and restore dry crumbles

it is a good thing when you have chicks weak with coccidiosis to get them to eat the medicated wet mash
for number of chicks
5 tbsp of dry crumbles
10 tbsp of plain water to which add
1/2 tsp of the sulmet
if that is what you use
feed 2 tsp of this medicated wet mash to each chick

I prefer amproylium and corid is very good
you make the corid or amproylium wet mash the same

and at same time use the medicated water also

Most chickens will eat the medicated wet mash and get the medicine into their gut
where as they only frink and sulmet is so bitter they will stand and die first

it is good to put some jello in the drinking water as it colors it and sweetens the sulmet water

hopefully you can get some medicated wet mash down the sick chicks

Also they will need the
wet mash probiotic
1 qt dry crumbles
1/4 cup yoguart
1-1/2 qts of milk
mix good and feed chicks 2-3 tsp of this so they can begin the gut restoration for good gut flora

the sulmet does away with their natural gut flora

thank you all I will try to save them
