4 Day old chick is not moving much and has a build up of poo that is clogged and hard. How hard should I try to tear it off? Is there an easy way?
Thanks in advance

That is commonly known as "pasting up", or "pasty butt".

Don't try to pull it off now. Your chick needs to have a soak/dip in some water to losen it up first.

"The treatment for pasting up isn’t the most fun thing in the world to do, but I found that a clean paper towel soaked in warm water does the trick wonderfully. All you need to do is clean off the blockage, and make sure the chick has access to fresh water all the time. (Basically she needs her bum wiped.)"

I replied on your other post. If it's not moving much, it may be too late.

Oh, no! I didn't see the other post. Hrrpmh.

Good luck with him!

I see a couple more have pasty butt and will start on a bum cleaning routine ASAP.
Thanks for the quick response. I knew you'd be there for me. LOVE this forum!

Yes, soak them in warm water and un-paste them asap. PLUS lower the heat in whatever brooder they are in. Most likely they are overheated and dehydrated....
