If the OP were to be on here complaining about losing dogs multiple times to neighbors that keep shooting them, I'd agree with your comment. I read this as a one-time event. Things can happen, even with the best of circumstances. Sometimes a gate doesn't latch, or a child accidentally opens a door. So many things can happen. To me, it seems that the OP is understanding as to why the dogs were killed and wants to make up for the dead chickens.
