HELP! My Dogs love Chicken Poo!

So all of you are saying that you don't own a rake that is intended to clean up poop in the run, coop or yard?

I had to hold my mouth cause I was laughing so hard at all this. This is gross

I feel for M@M@2four with the five dogs. And I guess the rest of you are glad you don't own 5000 chickens or more. But one thing is for sure, it cuts back on the dog food bill.

I can't stop laughing. Help!

Yes, I am still laughing! I can't stop!!!

I thought of M@M@2four and thought if she had a white dog and it went and rolled around in all the chicken poop, it would come back looking like a dalmation.

This thread is hilarious. Plus my dog wouldn't dare eat my cats poop!!! He would eat the cat.

It's just chicken poop. Mine ingests far more horse manure than any dog probably could chicken poo in a coop with a normal concentration of chickens. Does her no harm. Actually it can be beneficial in some ways. There are vitamins (like b12) that more carnivorous animals cannot produce but herbivores and some omnivores can and it would be found in their waste as well as any other animal product or meat. There are also beneficial bacteria. One way to prevent diarhea in a herbivorous animals on antibiotics is to mix a healthy animal's droppings with water and syringe it back to the sick one. Now this isn't done with carnivorous animals because their waste has a higher chance of containing harmful bacteria and other things that wouldn't be good to ingest. Also why it's highly suggested not to compost waste from dogs, cats, and other more carnivorous than herbivorous animals. Animals suffering vitamin deficiencies or young animals that haven't developped the right bacteria for digestion yet will often eat their mother's or siblings waste and occasionally their own. It's not abnormal. The only concern I have is it might increase my dog's parasite load but we don't have much of a parasite problem here and only need to worm the horses about twice a year.

as a nurse and chicken lover....I have to say: part of the reason we have all these "super germs" now in humans is that we have interrupted the natural cycle of things.Dog eats poop: Yes, it's gross, yes, it's funny but......it is what it is. That is the reason that kids grown up with a healthy dose of dirt (& I guess poop) are healthier than overly sanitized kids.

That's frikkin disgusting, but I have to admit, my yorkie does it too. It's one of the reasons he gets bathed twice a week and gets his teeth brushed before bed every night. Yuck! At least it's not "kitty crunchies", lmbo. Kitty poop is just nasty!

On another point, I have to agree with Junebug. Although I'm not a nurse (yet, in school currently) I did 4 years as a medic in the military, and I've been to seminars where doctors speak of causes of super bugs. We don't let kids get out and get dirty like they did 20 years ago. We also tend to overact and medicate the slightest things, causing major resistances to minor issues. I also studied a 3 year old child that died due to not being subjected to germs like he should have been. Mommy kept him inside, spotless, and when we went to preschool, all sorts of things blasted him, and he died in less than a month.

Sorry to go off topic.

Here's what I don't get.

Dog food: $35 a bag
Turkey food: $17 a bag

The turkeys eat the cheaper food, the dog would rather eat the turkey poop than the dogfood.

WHY am I buying dogfood that costs $35 a bag when they'd rather eat turkey poop? How stupid am I?

as soon as i take my boots or shoes off, Wiggles, our whacky little dog, comes running and tries to lick the chicken poop off the soles. so way gross. he gets caught and puts his head down like he is ashamed, yet does it every time!

We call them "chocolate truffles". LOL! Our dogs just love them - both chicken and cat poop. We stop them when we see them do it, but we're not always around. The worst is when they go next door and roll in a big cow patty. UGH! And then when we make them sit still to get hosed off, they look at us like we're torturing them!
