help! my duck is acting weird!

FWIW, I would be surprised if ate the oyster shells. My guy is a pig but has NO interest in them. He would, however, eat the layer pellets. So I do general purpose feed, along with corn in winter, and oyster shells in laying season. I would suggest either monitoring him or feeding the girls some supplemental calcium separately if that is the answer to your problem. Layer pellets are not great for drakes

I'll try her in the steamy shower as a precaution. She has layers pellets with calcium in. i don't give her oyster shells as I've heard they can be toxic to drakes and our boy will eat anything he sees and usually tries to steal her food

My drakes and gander and rooster have never actually eaten the oyster shell, I put it in a separate bowl from the feed and only my ducks,hens and my goose eat it. I saw my gander taste it once but never again. If she is laying and laid last night and not acting off then maybe this is just her. Just keep an eye on her as I'm sure you will and if you can post a video of what she is doing that would help to.And about the feather loss most drakes are pretty hormonal so it's always best if they have more than one duck to keep them happy so if you only have this duck maybe you should consider getting another so the girls won't get overly mated. Keep us updated on her please.

Hi. Thanks again for all your help. We ended up taking her to the vet as a magnifying glass didn't show up with anything. It is congealed blood where our drake has been pulling her feathers out. So we thinking about getting another female. I was watching him trying to mate her today and he is so much bigger than her i don't think he can actually stand on her back without falling off. He is literally 3 times the size of her and can only get on her back from her side but when he tries to turn around he keeps falling off even though she puts her wings out to try and support him, he is a heavy duck. I feel sorry for him but it's quite funny to watch. The egg noise is also normal. Its just hearing the egg forming which in some ducks is quite loud like our girls. If it wasn't winter is stay in the garden all day with them. But it's nice when they jump all over you when you get home. Love them to bits!

He is huge are you sure he isn't Pekin? and she looks more like a white Call duck next to him. Wow. I'm glad to found out what it is. Yes they can get over zealous in mating and the poor duck ends up with feathers missing, adding a couple more girls should hopefully take some pressure[literally] off you lil girl. Thank you. Yeah i initially went to get an Aylesbury but when i told the woman she was a white Campbell she said she had a male white Campbell. I've looked him up on line and he's got the right characteristics. Except he's massive lol. Yeah she had a longer beak than a call duck and again was assured by the breeder of her breed. Solly made progress today and actually managed to stay on her back. So fingers crossed he'll manage. I do need to get some more females. She is so jelous of me giving solly attention she will have a massive sulk when others are introduced. She's a mummy's girl and won't let anyone but me pick her up. Unless we are inside on the couch which is weird then she'll let my other Half cuddle her briefly before getting back on my my lap. I'm worried how she'll react to new ones. I know they should be around the same age. Thanks again for your advice.
