Hi,
Im new to owning ducks so im not too sure if this is normal or not... My baby duckling can not support itself! it hatched about 3 days ago and all it does is curl up on top of me and sleep. Every time i try to incrouage it to stand and walk, she kind of flops over onto the ground and starts to have what appears to be leg spasms. She was born 3-7 days AFTER her other siblings hatched after i removed her from her nest ( as her mother abandend her) and put her in an incubater. When she started to hatch she had alot of difficulty and after half a day was still making no progress from a little hole she made and was audibally getting very tired. I stepped in when i saw this and helped her crack the top layer of the egg. She then made no effort to get out of the egg for a good few hours, until finally i helped her out.

Ive her in a warm box with blankets a teddy to cuddle and a heat lamp. when ever i go towards her or chirp at her she'll have little 'spasms" and trys to crawl towards me. ive tried to help her stand and no matter how hard she struggles she cannot manage to support her head or body and extend her legs.

Is she doomed or is there some hope for my little duckling?

(P.S. sorry its so long, but i really need the help!)

HI and
welcome-byc.gif
sorry about your duckling and I really hate to say this but she probably wasn't meant to hatch and that may have been why mama left it. But it is hatched so now it needs help. Get some kind of poultry vitamins and put in her water. There's Poultry Nutri Drench and also Avia Charge 2000, both very good. Is she eating at all? you maybe able to get her to eat some mashed egg yolk mixed with her feed. small amts at a time and be sure to throw away at the end of the day and start with fresh next day. Mold will grow pretty quick in moistened food. It takes those that are slow to hatch or have needed help to hatch a little more time to get on their feet. And another thing I hate to say she may not make it even with all you try to do for her, so be prepared. Others may have some more ideas and i wish you the best in all you do to help her get on her feet. What breed of duck is she?
