HELP MY FLOCK IS GONE!

Any cats in the area??? Not to dampen any hope but cats and sometimes dogs can flatten a flock in minutes ... once left my brooder open while getting water ... catski got in ! Also had the neighbours dog kill 5 fully grown chickens in a matter of minutes ... its not pretty ... but realistically ... we all have to accept these losses and just get back to it ... i'd send you some replacements but i live to far ... just get back up on that horse and learn from any mistakes that were made ... youll be a chicken mama soon enough again !

Thanks. I actually went ahead and bought 4 full grown golden comets since I was planning on getting more chickens before they ran off anyway. I'm still looking when I can and my hope is that they are safe and will find their way back, but I just hope they didn't die.

Shelby, I am very sorry about your chicks. And like the rest have no room to judge you as I have done things with my hens, like think i was smarter than a hawk. My hens paid for it. Question, since we could say something came and was able to take your chicks, then could it come back and do the same? I don't know if you are in the same situation where something could get into your hens. Would talking about your coop be helpful? Reason I ask is that it took losing 2 hens to the hawk for me to figure out I had not solved my problem. What ever took your chicks has to still be out there?...hope this helps....and by the way love my Comets!! hope you will love your's too.

No they are sadly still missing. At this point I'm worried they're dead. Maybe I'll get lucky though.
I think at this point your probably right, you can still keep trying and looking but even I would have to agree that they are gone. I know you want your original flock back and it hurts to not see them. (I have three I miss every day) but as your husband suggested it might be time to start replacing the flock and who knows maybe one day you will look out there and see one of your original flock members. hugs, my heart hurts for you.

I'm just sitting and reading about your lost flock. Makes me tear up for you. If anyone would have told me how much I would care about my chickens I would not have believed them. Man we do fall in love..at least I do.every single one
It's impossible to imagine just how much you'll love them before meeting them. Ours started out as an idea of my husband's "Hey, why not get some chickens? Fresh eggs and when they stop laying, we'll have fresh roast chicken." Sounded great, logical & I was totally on board. For months, we planned, did research, built their house, fenced & predator proofed their yard, all with me never having laid eyes on a real, live chicken of my own, let alone touched one.

It took less than a week to know that the plan wasn't gonna happen & another week to work up the nerve to tell him we were now running a home for old age chickens!!

If my girls had gone MIA, I'd be heartsick. Sorry that you're going thru this Shelby.
