I have a 20 week leghorn who keeps jumping up on things and trying to escape over our property fence..The fence is 6 foot.. how do I prevent that from happening?. She is a very flighty bird too.. I have an extremely hard time catching her. She has gone over before but I ran out with treats and she jumped back over.

Do what prisons do. Erect an extension of wire or plastic deer netting angled at a 45 degree angle inward toward your yard so the hen won't have any landing at the top.

You have 2 easy options. Clip her flight feathers. Other option is to install a wire on top of fence.. Chickens need to land on top of fence first. (most cases). Wire about 4 inches above top of fence prevents chicken from making a landing and will fall back into yard. I think you should try the wire trick, first, since I don't like clipping wings.. Reason;; I want chickens to be able to fly away from predator danger. If you do need to clip wings, then I can post a link threat that I posted to in the past.
WISHING YOU BEST

I attach the netting/wire from the fence to the ground?

I'm not sure I have the guts to clip her feathers.. I'm such a softy!! I will try the wire trick. So if I understand properly, I would cut about 4 inches of wires, staple it to the fence sticking up, correct? Sorry, the So Cal girl here is new to all of this. ;)

. What you do is take a long wire as long as your fence is. Install it like it would be a railing on top of fence. and keep it up there with small pieces of wood or other supports. You can use strong string also.. As soon as it stops raining. I will go outside and make a sample pix of what I mean.. Picture tells a 1000 words....
I'm glad you chose this option rather than clipping.. You want your birds to be able to escape predators as best as possible.

I'm in SD too! Doing anthing to keep the chicks cool during this heatwave? We have a fan going, keep changing their water/adding ice, and froze water bottles for them to lay by. They choose to dig holes and lay in the dirt or under the bushes...

@simmworksfamily

Yes, my hens are doing the same thing, digging holes and laying in the dirt. I put a kiddie pool outside with about an inch of water but they are very uninterested.. I lightly misted them which they seemed to like. They are 20 weeks old and I'm still waiting for my first eggs, but I have a feeling this heat isn't helping!!
