HELP!! My Geese wont sit on her eggs!!

My goose has been laying eggs for quiet awhile now but she wont sit on them. She lays them all over the place in her pen at night. I have put all the eggs together but it seems that her or her mate always end up breaking them. I would love to have her sit on her nest and maybe hatch a couple (try to take them from her when they are born, so they are friendly) but as of right now she doesn't even care about them. Is there anything I can do to encourage her to sit??! I thought of making a nesting box but I have no idea how big she is very, very large, she is the biggest goose I have ever seen! (and I have seen a lot) Her mate and he have troubles because of the size difference some times!! So Please help!! Any ideas?!! She is also about 10 months old.

First thing, you are wasting your time and the eggs by collecting them up and moving them to a nest.

When your goose gets into the mood, she will make a nest and deposit her eggs in the nest. She will collect eggs for probably close to a month without setting on them. But she will never set on eggs that she has dropped higglety pigglety wherever she happened to be at the moment.

She will want a nest box that is big enough for her to stand up and turn around, and not a huge amount bigger than that. She'll want it in a place sheltered from weather and she will want to be able to see anything approaching. Fill the bottom of the box with clean hay or straw.

You goose might just be too young. My yearling just began to set, and she will be 12 months old in a couple of days. Mine is a breed that will brood and raise their own young. Some breeds aren't very good at it. Even my young girl looks bored to death. I'm sure she is sorry she ever started. She does that eye rolling "yeah whatever" thing that teenage girls do. Nothing like my older goose who coos and sings to her eggs all day.

My Pilgrim is 10 mos she laid her first egg sat 3/17/18 she is clueless. She walks around .l have my stall cut in half.They made a nest with my shavings and hay that l toss in there. Is there anything else l should do.Her mate that she grew up with has become very protective.
Does the goose have to sit on the nest continuesly for it to hatch They are Pilgrim geese.New to this.we love them .. Would love babies.

What breeds of geese sit ? Do Pilgrims? Mine is 10 mos .laid her first one this sat.clueless.Do they have to sit on them for so many hrs .Can she just sit in it at nt and they will hatch,? It's just her and her mate in the stall. Thanks

If she has just laid her first egg she isn't finished building her clutch up. Leave her eggs and let her continue laying in her nest probably 9-10 eggs before she goes broody. Geese only lay every other day. Once she gets the number she is happy with she'll settle in probably lay on them at night first then when broodiness hits 100% she'll sit on them 24/7 only coming out to eat drink and bathe. Ganders are very protective during all of this and are very much involved in helping to raise their off spring. Wonderful time of year.
