HELP!! My hatching Gosling, there is blood dripping out of the egg. A fairly decent amount. He started pippin yesterday morning.

Did the gosling pip on the side of the egg where the air sac is? I think its possible the gosling hit a vein

Sorta. What should I do?
Well, id apply a little bit of pressure with a cotton swab, id start with that, but depending on what happened, different things can be done about it, id be careful and only apply pressure to where it is bleeding
Hopefully the bleeding can stop and the gosling can proceed in the hatching, but also, is it far from the air sac? or is it close to it, or is it in the air sac, or is it on the complete other side of the egg, if you candle the egg you can get a better look

The internal membrane has a lot of blood vessels that the gosling has to finish absorbing before it can hatch. Occasionally they can accidentally nick one of these blood vessels when pipping. We can't see to apply pressure when this happens so we kind of just hope for the best but they're usually ok. If it was really severe I would probably open the air cell and assist but most of the time it's better to leave it.
If the shell is open for an assist then you can apply gentle pressure to the area (very gentle because there are a lot of blood vessels) or styptic powder to stop the bleed.

If it makes you feel better, I've hatched a lot and I've never lost one to pipping through a blood vessel that I can recall.
