Help! My hen can't hold up her head.

Please help. Yesterday my 12 week old hen injured her leg and the other hens were picking on her. The vet told me to separate and said she can't see her til Monday. I already had her separated in a run by herself, I gave her some B12 hoping that would help her get better faster but then I left to run an errand. When I got back she was having trouble holding up her head. She is still sleeping and it's almost 11 am here. She's been trying to get up but she can't to lift her head. I don't know what to do for her and I'm wondering too if maybe she broke her neck somehow after she was separated. Any guidance and all prayers are appreciated.
Thanks
I'm sorry to hear about your pullet.
Can you post some photos of her and her poop?
How long has she been outside?
What breed?
You mention she injured her leg - is there a wound or swelling or was she just limping?
The other picked on her - are there wounds?

She can't hold up her head and can't get up - I would try to get some Poultry Nutri-Drench into her or give some Vitamin E (400IU) and B-Complex (1/4 tablet).

If she is lame along with not being able to lift her head -unless she's been injured badly, Marek's should also be considered.

Hopefully with photos/video and more information, we can make some suggestions.

I guess your husband wouldn't like it if your brought them in the house? :plbb

He wouldn't like it but he wouldn't stop me OR be surprised :lau We met when I was 15 and got married when I was 22 so now at nearly 38 he knows what's up ;)

The babies wouldn't like being inside, though! They're happily tucked up on their roosting bar in the little coop.

Yes to all of this! Sound advice! Let us know how she's doing? Hope she's on the mend :hugs

@Henriettamom how did your chickens hold up last night? We did a few fireworks ourselves, but I always pick...and I quote: small, quiet and colorful. Not big and loud. My stepdad always gets those 'cannonballs' but this time I told him no, no, no! :rant Aside from my mom being a gripey party pooper, it was humid and bug infested outside, it was nice. I stood and listened to the crickeys chirping and heard distant fireworks; looked at the stars and found 'the big dipper' constellation! :wee

Oops, did I put crickeys? :lau Crickets, that is. :p

I'm so happy you had a good 4th! You have such a wonderful, positive perspective for someone so young :love

My chickens did amazingly well! I know it was silly to worry and will be much calmer next year. My kidlets are 13 year old Abby and nearly 17 year old Daniel so we lit some off, too. Our property is a bit more than an acre and far longer than wide with coops near the back so once the neighbors went crazy with their's I let the kids and hubby do their thing at the end of the driveway far from the chickies. Not that it would've mattered much as the neighbors on all sides go big anyway.

Aside from being a little more jumpy than usual everyone is just business as usual, out foraging the cherries falling off the trees and enjoying this cool, overcast day!

Sounds like ya'll had a good 4th to! Hey, it's ok to worry about your chickens! ;)
(I'm 24 by the way. I have to still live at home because my job doesn't pay enough for my to live on my own) :tongue

Cool, overcast day??? I envy that! It's hot and humid, and I was 'volunteered' :old to go pick peas. I sweat up a storm, but thankfully I had a bottle of water to pour on my head. :plbb

You're still a baby to me! :gigI get it, though! When I was 21 I ended up back home while working and going to school! It does sound as though your family is lucky to have you!

No offense, but I don't like being mentioned as a baby. I get enough pokes from people who say I don't look my age. And I don't. But that bugs me sometimes. :he But then they tell me that I'll like it when I'm old. I can't help looking younger than I am,(not to mention plain looking :sick) I think I inherited that 'look-younger-than-you-really-are' look from my grandmother. She has been told she doesn't look her age.

I guess my family is lucky to have me in the essence that I am the gardener in my household. I have a small raised bed where I grow tomatoes and peppers from seed all from my dinky greenhouse. I also sell my veggie plants, which helps me make extra money.

Sadly, she didn't make it. :(
