Hi there, have a wee white silkie I noticed a small cut a bit above her eye yesterday and now her eye has actually closed I cleaned the area and then she was able to open it but soon after starts to close again I'm not sure if it's the cut or conjunctivitis or respiratory I want to maybe try herbal treatment if possible what do you think

If her eye was cut or pecked, it would be normal for her to close it or for it to become swollen. You can apply some lubricating eye drops or an antibiotic ointment to the eye twice a day. If there is crusting of the eye, it can be cleaned with saline. Watch her for any new symptoms.

I had to take her to the vets she started to get ulcers over her eyes and face turns out she has fowl pox

Fowl pox is a virus that lasts around 3-5 weeks. There is nothing that treats it, except maybe to apply some iodine to spots (except around the eye) to dry the scabs. Don't mess with scabs much because it can spread the virus. Flies in the coop or mosquitoes can spread it to other flock members. Around or in the eye, I would recommend using Terramycin eye ointment or Vetericyn eye gel twice daily, but plain Triple Antibiotic will also work. Saline can be good if there is drainage to help remove it. Look inside the beak and throat if she sudden gets sicker or , won't eat, or has truble breathing, because wet fowl pox can form lesions in the throat and airway. Give her some extra protein from eggs, tuna, or a little dry cat food so she doesn't lose weight. Vaccines are available to those that haven't been exposed, but she will be immune to that strain once she heals.

Thanks guys...There r no vaccines for chickens in the UK for fowl pox apparently...I feel soo sorry for her both her eyes r closing and I have to make sure she is eating properly

I have had a couple of very light cases usually involving just one scab on the comb where I live. But in some tropical areas it can be just an awful disease. You might check with a vet about the vaccine.

It's awful I'm just hoping the vet has got it right and it is fowl pox I am getting amino acid for her at the minute because she is loosing soo much weight and it is to help her gain her appataite fingers crossed

Try giving her some egg, chopped tuna/salmon, liver, or gamebird feed. I realize in the UK that you can't feed kitchen scraps to chicken by law, but these are ways of getting extra protein into her. Moistened chicken feed with buttermilk or water also is attractive.
