Any idea.

I would not let this guy in with your flock. Looks like it could be a bacterial infection but I'm no vet. See what others here say but DO NOT put him near your other chickens, it is probably contagious and I'd quarantine him for at least a few WEEKS.

Mr. Roo MIGHT have wet fowl pox. At the least he has a respritory infection.
Wet fowl pox is also called "canker". Wet fowl pox CAN kill if it gets in the respritory tract.
I am going to post this and do alittle looking in my bag of tricks for more info on wet fowl pox.
It is a VIRAL disease...

treat with metronidazole. You can buy it as Fishzole. Dosage is 250mg per day x 7 days. It is contageous and birds remain carriers. Canker affects the crop and other organs as well.

tHIS IS THE INFO FOR ORAL CANKER TREATMENT........took me awhile to find it....IF it is a fungal infection antibiotics will not help.....

Is the stuff that came out of his eye and mouth a yellow cheesy material? That is infection. This guy needs antibiotics ASAP, and whatever you do DO NOT put him with the rest of the flock.

All I can say is that you are right to be concerned. I'd be very concerned. I don't know what he has but once something gets introduced into your flock....there's no going back. Been there, done that. The other thing is that even with him being quarantined you can so easily track whatever this is all over the place. Virus, bacteria and fungus can all travel on your shoes, your clothes, your hands, hair, you name it. Viruses are airborne and can travel easily to nearby birds. Quarantine works if it's true quarantine. Just penning up a distance from the other birds is not true quarantine although that is what most people do.

I'm sorry if I sound like such a negative nellie about this but I've been down that road of having a flock infected. Hopefully he'll get better and your other birds won't be affected. Bird diseases just seem to never be that easily controlled or gotten rid of though.
