Because our baby loves shiny things he found a large silver type earring and ate it! xrays show it's gone from crop to gizzard and we are concerned about the toxicity of the metal (unknown what kind of metal - it was a silver coloured earring) and or if it will cause an obstruction. Should we be concerned? Are peacocks much hardier than I think? Peachick is about 10 weeks old. Thank you for your help!!!

I know this is not what you want to hear, but I don't think there is much you can do. Maybe feed him fine gravel that could help home pass it. Or give him a little bit of cooking oil with an eye dropper. That could help. Otherwise with metal toxins I don't know anything for that. Hope he gets well. :hugs

Thank you for your insight. I think we are in a wait and see period... :( It happened three days ago now and so far he seems ok we think. Maybe a little more 'fluffy' and 'chill' than usual. So hard to know for sure.. I wish I could speak Peachick!

Generally when there is a bowel obstruction and they're not passing it right they'll sit and generally look miserable while consuming a large amount of grit. Short of surgery if things get bad there's not much to be done.

Happy to report all is well in Pea-land! The gizzard is taking care of everything! xray shows not a whole lot left . Earring is being dissolved. Pea chick acting normal. :)

Glad to hear that your pea chick is recovering from it's questionable taste in snacks.

My hens don't swallow them, thank heavens. They just love to pull them out of my ears and drop them in the coop.....usually under the roost bars :sick Not about to go there after them so I have a growing collection of single earrings.
