Help! My Rooster tried to attack me!

Rudy did meet his end from a coyote and Mr Spot is still a sweetie.

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your reply. I was having trouble keeping up with all the replies. And trying to get my courage up to go back out to visit with Mr. Red. Boy, what a day! He still don't like me. I was still in there when hubby came home. I let him do the feeding. So, that means Mr. Red thinks he won son I'll have to do it all over again tomorrow. I hope he's in a better mood tomorrow, cause I wanted to hurt him today when I left that coop. He just wore me out.
I'm sorry about your Rudy. But, you're better off with Mr. Spot. I wish I had a Mr. Spot to take care of my back!

Told you it was a battle. They can be very stubborn. But they sense weakness and will exploit it. Your husband probably walks into that coop demanding their respect. You need to adopt that same demeanor. You need to be calm, confident, and consistent. If you give up before he gives in, just go ahead and slaughter him. Rehabbing will not work and will just make it worse. He knows he can win against you.

Oh man, how long have you had him? I can't do this for long! I took a big switch and my dog training clicker/whistle with me this afternoon! I just can't believe how stubborn and mean roosters are. The minute he heard me getting the food he started crowing, so I started clicking. We went back and forth like that till I had their food ready. Then I set the food down outside the door and opened it. He was over in the corner on the other side about 12' away so I got the food and shut the door. Here he came as hard and fast as he could! Scared the piss out of me! Luckily I had time to set the food down because I had to hit him! I know I did'nt hurt him, I just caught him off guard the way he did me yesterday. As soon as he got his mind wrapped around what just happened he came back! I couldn't believe it. I had to hit him several times and blow my whistle. But that did it. I think the whistle saved my butt! He didn't mind me hitting and swatting at him. Man, I don't know what I will do if this happens every
day. I'm sure he is probably thinking the same thing, we went at it for a long time! But I was determined to show him I'm the momma! He has to be have.
I was still in there when my husband came in from work, and I had not got to the feed dish yet! I walked out of the barn with that switch in my hand and told him he had to feed the chickens. Didn't say anything else. Just kept on walking to the house.
A few minutes later he comes in and ask what was the matter? I said, did you feed the chickens? He said yes, what's wrong? Are you mad at me? Nooo, I'm not mad at you. I'm mad at Mr. Red! He says, I think you just don't like him and he knows it. I'm thinkin w t f ?!

I'm sorry, but you have to GET RID of the rooster! Some say you can prove you are the alpha and in control, but I don't believe that. I've had many roosters, most just ignore me and watch their girls, but I had one that tried to tear me up every time I got near. He was a coward too, he would wait until my back was turned and attack. Don't tell my husband (he loved that nasty bird) but I let the dog get him one day when he attacked me without provocation. It's much more peaceful now! Get rid of him any way you want to, but get rid of him. Once a rooster gets mean I know of no way to fix em. Good luck.

This is one of the "small" injuries I sustained. Don't let this happen to you!

Mr Spot is a true gentleman. Rudy was very flashy looking and had a great mating dance for the ladies while Mr Spot is so big he just sort of tries two steps then does it. But Spot is henpecked and spoils his ladies. He eats from my hand and when we sit out at night will come up for pets. Our new bantam roo Mr Toughie tries to attack but is so tiny that for the whole year its like “oh stop little man”. He is too small to even cause concern.

Holy crap that is a battle scar!! Rudy would attack but I would give him that old right hook until Mr Spot started being my bodygaurd.

Hey webbysmeme, first up I have no experience with roosters as we are not allowed to have them and I do not need one anyways.

Why is someone with no rooster experience replying? Because I came across your thread and read it all and I feel sorry for you; chickens are supposed to be a joy to own and usually are. I feel bad that your rooster has you feeling this way.

Oh my! That hurt. I fought with that rooster over an hour today. He is more stubborn than anybody I know! My husband just walked in fed changed the water which I already had it all sitting there, and walked out. No problem at all. And I just left the coop! I was out of breath and almost in tears, I guess he wasn't even breathing hard, my husband didn't say anything about him acting strange. Makes me so mad.

If you are the one that tends the chickens on a daily basis you have two options. You can put the rooster in a separate run and let husband deal with him or GET RID OF HIM! Your choice! I used to have to shield myself with a plastic snow shovel, I'm so glad those days are over and I can enjoy my girls!

Well, I tried today. But I was the one to walk away. I just had to get out of there. I really think I was winning though. Then hubby drove in, so I saw my chance to take a break. I meant to go back in but I got busy in the yard. First thing in the morning I'll see Mr. Red. I'm so thankful for all the good advice I got here before I went out there.
