Hello, I have a sick bantam. She is about a year old and won’t eat or drink and has some clear mucus collecting in her beak. She has been isolated for about a week and I have been giving her water with a syringe that has probiotics and electrolytes in it and I have been putting VetRx poultry aid on her head and under her wings ( seems to be vapor rub for chickens) but nothing is helping. I’m afraid to put her back with my other bantams because I don’t want them to get sick like her. I have no clue what to get or what to do to help my poor bantam. Please anyone help me!

I am sorry about your sweet bantam. Let me reach out to those that may have more experience with respiratory issues. Please be careful syringing her water....if it is not done correctly, your chicken will aspirate. Good luck! :hugs

Thank you so much!! I have only been using it to kinda dribble a little bit in her mouth so she will stay hydrated, but thanks for the concern. Please let me know if you find anything out

The others have probably been exposed already to whatever is affecting her, so I would try her back with them this morning to see if she will eat and drink on her own. Check her crop this morning before she eats to see if it is empty, or if she may be having problems that are causing crop contents to come back up. If her mucus problems persist, you can try some antibiotics on her. Tylan 50 injectable can be used orally for respiratory infections. You need to buy several 3 ml syringes and 18 or 20 gauge needle to get it out of the vial, and then remove the needle to give it orally into the beak a little at a time. Dosage is 0.25 ml per pound given 3 times a day for 5 days.

Respiratory diseases can be from viruses, bacteria or mycoplasma, or fungus. Only the bacterial and mycoplasmal diseases will respond to antibiotics. Here is a good link about common diseases and symptoms and I would read about infectious bronchitis, mycoplasma gallisepticum, infectious coryza, and ILT which are the more common ones we see:

I agree the others have already been exposed.
Antibiotics may help...they may not but that is your best bet for now.
Is a vet visit and option?
No there are no vets near me that take poultry. I want to try the Tylan 50 but it says it’s for swine and cattle so I’m afraid to give it to her

That is the same Tylan that a vet would prescribe for your chicken. Tylan is widely used for chickens. There is a powder for use in the water that is used in chickens by vets, but is only available with a prescription. Tylan 50 which is available at feed stores without a prescription can be used orally or by injection. If you could some powder from a vet or a prescription for it that would be good. Here is some reading to help show you:
